Evaluation 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

There are many different ways that my media product represents particular social groups. This is through the use of images, language, colours, etc.

A way in which my media product represents particular social groups is through the images that have been used. The people in the images help to identify particular social groups. For example the picture of "Just Jack" on the right. It represents fans of pop music. This image shows "Jack" wearing a Nike hooded jumper with jeans, a beanie hat and glasses. Nike is one of the most popular clothing brands and where there is a pop music artist there is a famous Nike tick somewhere on their body. The fact he is wearing Nike shows that pop music fans wear mainstream brands that are very popular and trendy. The facial expression here is a very serious but it looks like he is posing a bit. This suggests the outgoing behavior that most pop music artists/fans have. The house style of my magazine also represents pop music as bright and cheerful with the contents page. Bright colours are used and there are photos of people clearly enjoying themselves.

The use of language in my magazine also represents particular social groups too. Most of the language used is formal but combined with the house-style it creates a nice balance between formal and informal. You don't want it to be too formal because the target audience is 16-15 year old and nor do you want it to be to informal so it is a nice read. There is some colloquial language used which also adds to the informality.

Pop-punk is also being represented as gloomy and mysterious with the photo on the front cover of the black and white man singing and also on the contents page with two images side by side and one being black and white and the other with a blue tint.
